ABANDONED ITEM FROM NAVCON 2008!!!

It's been a long time and sorry, it hasn't been a priority for us, but this is something that needs to be taken care of.  We still have an item left behind by an attendee or judge at our convention in 2008.  Before this year's con, we sent out emails about it and we also made PA announcements  at the con itself.  No one has come forward to claim it so we're still holding it for it's rightful owner.  If you were at NAVCON 2008 and think you might have left something, please send an email to navconmail@yahoo.com with a description of what it is.

In order to return the item to the correct person, we are asking for this detailed description.  Since it's been over a year, here's a couple hints. It's an ordinary item, not something for a naval game, and it's used for transporting things.  If you reply and your description comes close, we'll get back to you and work out arrangements for returning the item.  Thanks for your assistance.

NAV-CON 2010 A GO AT NEW IMPROVED LOCATION!

Big news!  Your hard-working Nav-con staff has found a much, much better location to hold Nav-Con.  Though Nav-Con has been sucessfully held at the American Legion Hall in South Milwaukee for the past two years, it has used a number of different locations going back to its inception in the nineties.  It has always been open to trying new and better locations, and it will continue to be.    When the opportunity to use this newly remodelled facility presented itself, we couldn't pass it up.  By making the reservation, we have committed to holding Nav-Con for another year, and if all goes well, for more years to come.  We didn't want to change locations unless we found a place that offered substantial improvement to the established Nav-Con experience, and that's what we feel we've found.  Not only is the rental expense in line with our previous locations, but it is easier to get to, offers better parking, and we are really excited by having the extra space.  If we can line up an event judge, or judges to do it, we are looking forward to offering an old-time Fletcher Pratt mother of all naval games fleet action on the high seas Floor.  So if you're a Fletcher Pratt gamer, this is your chance.  We're interested.  Let us know.  There are many other advantages to this new location that are described elsewhere on our website.  Check it out and keep coming back to check out the latest developments for Nav-Con 2010.

HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM NAVCON!!!
The holidays are over, the snow is being shoveled and your NAVCON staff is getting back to normal life.  As part of that, we got together for the first time in 2010 to continue our naval campaign as described in previous postings.

The shooting has started in the first engagement, the now named Battle of Sicily, between the Austrian fleet proceeding south from Syracuse, and the British Med squadron proceeding north from Malta.  Two British torpedo boat flotillas were close enough on contact to recklessly charge the Austrian fleet.  They were immediately intercepted by almost all the Austrian light forces with guns blazing.  The secondaries of the closest Austrian heavies also joined in.  If anyone can miss at shooting fish in a barrel, it's the Austrians.  And they did.  Not a single hit.  The Austrian light cruiser, Sankt Georg, deliberately sacrificed itself to protect the Austrian heavies by absorbing the British torps.  The Emperor will be proud.  The British heavies, a battlecruiser and four cruisers, used the time to lengthen the range.  Meanwhile the Austrian main body fell into disarray as they tried to get out of their cruising formation to face the enemy without colliding with each other.  A few shots from the bow main guns of the leading  heavies actually hit some of British torpedo boats now withdrawing to cover their main body.  Both sides are forgetting their mission and allowing themselves to get sucked into a general engagement.  Who can best afford it?

More next time.

DESCRIPTION
Late in 1940, the Italian navy had been a fleet in being.  However, after the British struck a crippling blow at Taranto, the Italian Admiralty decided that they were better off taking the fight to the high seas.  Owing to early Italian successes in disrupting reinforcement of Malta, the British began sending larger and more powerful convoys.  Such was the case on November 27, 1940 when a strong British convoy was informed of an Italian force closing on their position.  British Admiral Somerville ordered his escort forces to engage the Italian forces.  Vice Admiral Iachino had orders to avoid combat unless it was heavily in his favour.  Will the Italians judge the odds in their favor and engage the British in a decisive battle?  Or can the British escorts close for battle in either case?
