ABANDONED ITEM FROM NAVCON 2008!!! It's been a long time and sorry,
it hasn't been a priority for us, but this is something that needs to be taken care of. We still have an item left
behind by an attendee or judge at our convention in 2008. Before this year's con, we sent out emails about it and
we also made PA announcements at the con itself. No one has come forward to claim
it so we're still holding it for it's rightful owner. If you were at NAVCON 2008 and think you might have left something,
please send an email to navconmail@yahoo.com with a description of what it is. In order to return the item to the correct person, we are asking for this detailed description.
Since it's been over a year, here's a couple hints. It's an ordinary item, not something for a naval game, and it's used for
transporting things. If you reply and your description comes close, we'll get back to you and work out arrangements
for returning the item. Thanks for your assistance.

THE BATTLE OF SICILY CONTINUESAfter several delaying mishaps, your NAVCON staff got back together to continue its 1914 naval scenario.
The way we look at it, part of properly staffing a naval wargame convention, is to be naval gamers and play naval games at
least once in a while. When last we left off, as described in a previous posting, the Austrian fleet heading south to
go around the southern tip of Sicily, encountered a British force, which closer observation, determined now consisted of a
battlecruiser, four armored cruisers, and a couple flotillas of torpedo boats or some other such light annoyances. After
a quick bold approach, this British force fell back to the southeast, having provoked the entire Austrian fleet into pursuing
them. With a slight speed advantage, they gradually lengthened the range. At the end of an hour, the remainder
of the British Mediterranean squadron, consisting of two more battlecruisers, four light cruisers, and two more flotillas
of lights, joined them from the southeast. Strangely, even with this reinforcement, the British continued to fall back,
perhaps to draw the Austrians farther away from the French convoys. The Austrians continue to pursue as best they can,
but are having trouble bring their force to bear. It's going to take a while to stretch out into a firing line and the
British aren't cooperating. There was plenty of long range fire, mostly against the hard-to-hit flotillas, with little
result except a lot of smoke on the water and lots of dead fish. The Austrians did manage to hit and sink one British
light cruiser and the British did do some unknown critical damage to an Austrian cruiser. Good thing both sides have
plenty of ammo. More later.

TOURNAMENT ADDEDIn our usual experience, most events don't get added to the schedule until the final weeks before the con.
Of course, everything is subject to change, but we are very pleased at this date to announce the committment we have now received
to include an A.R.E.A. sanctioned tournament of the classic Avalon Hill naval boardgame, Victory in the Pacific.
VITP has been a regular gaming event at NAVCON for the past four years but never before has it been presented as a formal
tournament. So if you are a Victory in the Pacific player, start practicing and be at NAVCON this year to square
off against the most serious oppenents you are likely to find. Every game is different. Check back later for more
details.

DESCRIPTION Late in 1940, the Italian navy had been a fleet in being. However, after the British struck a crippling blow
at Taranto, the Italian Admiralty decided that they were better off taking the fight to the high seas. Owing to early
Italian successes in disrupting reinforcement of Malta, the British began sending larger and more powerful convoys.
Such was the case on November 27, 1940 when a strong British convoy was informed of an Italian force closing on their position.
British Admiral Somerville ordered his escort forces to engage the Italian forces. Vice Admiral Iachino had orders to avoid combat unless it was heavily in his
favour. Will the Italians judge the odds in their favor and engage the British in a decisive battle? Or can the British
escorts close for battle in either case? Scale 1/2400
